UPDATE: Peskov: Kremlin sees no need in lockdown in pandemic

(updates headline, paragraphs 1, 2)

MOSCOW, Dec 7 (PRIME) -- The Kremlin sees no need in a new lockdown due to the pandemic, spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

"The current level of organization of countering the virus and medical services provision is sufficient to avoid lockdowns, be it an end to travel between the regions or a halt of the economy. We still see no need in that," Peskov said.

Aide to the healthcare minister Alexei Kuznetsov said that the ministry did not suggest any restrictions on interregional and intraregional travel.

"The Healthcare Ministry is not suggesting any additional restrictions on people’s travel on the territory of the Russian Federation,” Kuznetsov told reporters.

“The statement about the possibility of introducing restrictions on travel between the regions and municipalities was made during a report at healthcare conference Healthcare and Quality and referred to the measures used earlier and might be used to soften the infectious processes."

Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko said earlier that the government might consider restrictions on travel between the regions and inside the regions.
